Media comment: G7 and the climate crisis – we must put measurement where our mouth is

Jun 13, 2021 · 1 min read

Dear Editor,

I read with great interest that G7 leaders made new pledges to combat climate change. Yet, I cannot help but feel that when it comes down to the small print, we’ve still got a lot of work to.

I am particularly concerned about the way success will be measured. If we are to build back better societies and deliver sustainable change, we must accurately track success in real time and report on progress against objectives and KPIs. Only then can effective decisions be made, actions adjusted and progress checked. This should not be an after-thought, but the keystone to hold businesses, governments and people to account.

When it comes to the climate crisis, let’s start putting measurement where our mouth is.

Yours sincerely,
