Update from Ciaran Phelan, Head of Ireland

Paul TurnerWelcome to the second 2020 edition of your Members Plus.

I hope you are safe and well at this very challenging and unprecedented time for the world. As a result of Covid 19 CIMA Ireland closed its offices on the 13th of March, however, all our staff are currently working from home and will continue to work assiduously on your behalf during this time.

I would like to update you on some of our activity and what is being planned.

Many students of various disciplines have been preparing for examinations however, these have been severely disrupted by the Coronavirus. CIMA students currently cannot take examinations, as all Pearson Vue exam centres are currently closed for the foreseeable future. We however, have been looking at alternatives to ensure students can continue to progress, and I am very pleased to announce that from May CIMA students will be able to undertakes their OT and Case studies examinations from the comfort, and more importantly, safety of their own homes. This is unique to accountancy studies in Ireland and will ensure our students can continue to progress through their qualification with the minimal of disruption.

For you our valued members we have a number of CPD webinars planned to ensure you can satisfy your requirements. We have also moved our membership application process on line so students who complete and qualify can attend a virtual Membership Application Session and be granted membership.

CIMA Ireland will continue with this publication to update you on all our activities within the association.

There is no doubt that when we finally try to get our economy back up and running that management accountants will be at the forefront of this recovery and your skills and knowledge will be in high demand.

Finally, please feel free to contact us if there is anything, we can do for you during these difficult times and most importantly, please continue to follow the guidelines and stay safe and well.

Kind Regards,

Ciaran Phelan
