IFRS 16 is coming into force with effect on 1 January 2019. The aviation industry will be the second most affected industry behind the rail industry. Airlines, and to a smaller extend Lessors (LILOs), have had to transition leases onto their balance sheet in advance of the January deadline. Grant Thornton talks about some of the issues that have arisen during these processes, including fundamentals, such as the definition of a lease and the measurement of the Right of Use Asset and corresponding Liability (e.g. appropriate discount rates?, appropriate term?). GT will give practical insight into the design/build/maintenance of models to assist in the determination and maintenance of these new assets and liabilities.
