CIMA Mayor's Trophy 2012

Toronto's annual CIMA Mayor's Trophy cricket tournament took place in Sunnybrook Park, Toronto, on 23 June 2012 and was a success.

'Once again, the annual CIMA Mayor's Trophy tournament brought together teams from across the city for a great day of cricket,' said Mayor Rob Ford. 'Cricket seems to be getting more popular every year in Toronto.'

Among the many enthusiastic spectators at the event were Gulzari Babber, President of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants® (CIMA), and Amal Ratnayake, Chair of CIMA Canada, along with City of Toronto staff and representatives of many Toronto businesses and community organizations that support cricket.

'CIMA Mayor's Trophy is a unique Toronto community event that brings communities together through the shared passion for the game of cricket,' said Ratnayake of CIMA Canada.

'As a global professional body of management accountants, CIMA is proud to be associated in promoting cricket in Toronto, a sport that is passionately followed by billions of fans around the world.'

The Mayor's Trophy, with the help of a myriad of sponsors and community partners, helps to bring cricket to the broader Toronto community.

In two other trophy games at today's tournament at Sunnybrook Park, Metro News won the CIMA Media Trophy and KPMG won the CIMA Accountants Trophy.

Another CIMA initiative, the newly inaugurated CIMA Mayor's School Cricket Tournament for the new CIBC Trophy, was played in May of this year.

CIMA, in partnership with RBC Royal Bank and Tom's Place, also sponsors the Cricket Across the Pond scholarship program, which is sending 12 young players to Surrey, England this summer for a cricket training program.

CIMA is a membership body that offers an internationally recognized professional qualification in management accountancy, with over 195,000 students and members in 176 countries.

CIMA members and students around the world are involved in community activities. A significant majority of CIMA members in Toronto have roots in cricket playing nations.
