Changing your membership status

Has your situation changed recently? Does your membership status need updating? If so, here are several options available to you.

Become a retired member

If you have been a CIMA member for at least 20 years and are fully retired, you can apply for permanent remission of fees.

You will not be required to pay subscription fee. You will only receive the annual report and accounts, and the annual returns form, which includes a proxy voting slip.

You will still be able to use the letters FCMA / ACMA and CGMA after your name

You can vote at our AGM.

Gaining a reduced subscription

If your financial circumstances are severely reduced, you may be eligible for a reduced subscription fee ('remission') to assist members in need. These circumstances include:

Members:

  • No income from employment
  • Unemployed and raising a family
  • Re-entering full-time education to obtain a further qualification relevant to the field of accountancy
  • Prolonged illness – where illness prevents gainful employment for a period of not less than three months
  • Full-time caring for disabled children, parents or partners
  • Voluntary services / VSO of two years maximum (after which proof may be required)
  • Retired members who do not meet the CIMA retired members criteria (above)

Resigning your membership

If you no longer wish to be a CIMA member, you can resign in writing by filling in our Contact Form: https://www.cimaglobal.com/email-us/If you do not wish to be charged the current year's subscription fee please resign by 31 March. You must return your membership certificate to The Helicon, One South Place, London, EC2M 2RB.

Resigning means that you do not become lapsed from our records. Your record is correctly updated and amended to show a resigned status.

If you wish to return to CIMA after resigning you will need to apply for readmission. 

Readmission

If you wish to reapply for readmission, choose from the following:

I lapsed my membership within the last five years I resigned my membership within the last five years I resigned or lapsed my membership more than five years ago
Log into your MY CIMA account and pay:

    The current readmission fee 

    The current year's subscription 

    Any fees you owed when your membership lapsed
