Add to the stack: Summer reading suggestions

Unsurprisingly, as we’re all finding ways to fill our time during lockdown, reading books has increased in popularity. Reading hits that sweet spot of entertainment, learning and relaxation.

What could be more soothing than sitting down with a book at the end of the day, allowing yourself to be completely absorbed and entertained for a few moments of escapism? Or how about the fulfillment of reading non-fiction that explains how this often-confusing world works?

What does your reading list look like right now? We asked the Association staff what’s on their summer reading lists:

Dr. Martin Farrar, associate technical director of research and development, has suggestions covering resilience, accounting and the economy, plus, a feel-good read:

  • Uncharted: How to Map the Future Together by Margaret Heffernan.
  • The Tyranny of Metrics by Jerry Z. Muller.
  • Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman.

Paul Parks, CPA, CGMA, has these books on his summer reading list:

  • WEconomy: You Can Find Meaning, Make A Living, and Change the World by Craig Kielburger, Holly Branson and Marc Kielburger.
  • The Business Model Navigator: 55 Models That Will Revolutionise Your Business by Oliver Gassmann, Karolin Frankenberger, and Michaela Csik.

A few staff from the Association’s management accounting shared their recommendations. Andrew Harding, FCMA, CGMA, chief executive, has Blockchain Hurricane by CIMA member Kate Baucherel on his list.

Here’s what Peter Spence, associate technical director, is going to be reading:

  • Radical Uncertainty: Decision-Making Beyond the Numbers by John Kay and Mervyn King.
