5 tips on CPD monitoring

Picture this: you’ve just been notified that you have been selected for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) monitoring.  

To protect the public interest and to preserve the designation you worked so hard to achieve, we select a random sample of members’ CPD records to be monitored each year. Whilst it’s understandable that some members may be nervous about being monitored, there’s no need to worry. CPD monitoring provides you with an opportunity to showcase all your hard work and achievements throughout the year. 

To help you navigate the process, spoke with Ingrid BenjaminCPD Monitoring Specialist, for her insight. She shared these five tips on what to do if selected for CPD monitoring. 

  1. Start recording your continuing professional development (CPD). Note all the learning activities you’ve completed over the last 12 months and start adding them to your My Learning record on the Competency and Learning website today. If you haven’t used the website before, this document outlines how to record your CPD. 

  1. Let us know if you think you might be eligible for an exemption. Exemptions will be considered for those who are unemployed, on a career break, on maternity leave, retired or have specific health issues.  

  1. Check whether your employer is accredited. CIMA members working for accredited employers can use their personal development plan as evidence of CPD compliance. Here is an A-Z list of accredited employers.

    If your employer is accredited, make sure your employment details are up-to-date in My CIMA so that we can verify your place of employment. If your employer isn’t accredited, you will need to submit your CPD record via the Competency and Learning website

  1. Think outside the box, when it comes to identifying relevant learning and development activities. Anything that helps develop your professional knowledge, skills and experience could count as CPD. This includes formal and informal learning activities, including reading an article or journalonline learning, coaching and mentoringattending a conference or event. 

    When preparing your My Learning on the Competency and Learning website make sure you add all job roles held during the period being monitored. This will help structure your learning. To learn how to add a role, watch this short video .

  1. Hit submit! Imay sound simple, but when your My Learning record is complete and you’re ready to send it to CIMA, make sure you press the Submit button. We won’t receive your CPD record unless you press Submit’. If you would like a copy of your recordadd your email address in the ‘send to’ field.
