CPD Monitoring

Essential information for members randomly selected for CPD monitoring.

Members selected for monitoring will be required to submit their record using our Competency and Learning website.

If you haven't started using it yet please familiarise yourself with the 'My Learning' section of the website and start using it to record your CPD now. If you are selected for monitoring you will be asked to provide details for the last 12 months, only CPD records submitted through the Competency and Learning website will be accepted.

The Competency and Learning website will help you to record your CPD in the correct format, removing any uncertainty and giving you more time to focus on your professional development.

For further information, or if you have any questions, read the FAQs below, download a guide to using the Competency and Learning website, explore the CPD section of our website or email

The Competency and Learning website allows you to identify your learning needs; tracking your progress; and submit your record, at the click of a button, to the CIMA CPD monitoring team.

I work for an accredited employer, how will it affect me?

The usual arrangements for members who work for Premier Partner and CIMA Development Quality Partner employers remain in place, you will not be required to submit your CPD record.

However, please make sure that your CIMA record is up to date so we can identify who you are. You can do this by logging into your My CIMA account and selecting My details > My personal and employment details.

To confirm whether your employer is part of CIMA's accreditation scheme please check they are listed on our website. If they aren't listed, and you still believe your employer is accredited please let us know.

Have I been selected for CPD monitoring?

If you’ve been selected for CPD monitoring this year you will be notified via email.

If selected for CPD monitoring you will be required to submit your CPD record for the last 12 months using the Competency and Learning website

Am I exempt from CPD monitoring?

If you fall under any of the following categories you may be eligible for an exemption.

  • already fully retired
  • not in paid work
  • maternity leave
  • ill health

If you believe you may be eligible for an exemption please contact us outlining your circumstances.

CIMA will not grant exemptions due to high workload as it is expected that members undertake and record CPD on an ongoing basis.

I'm going to retire soon, can I apply for an exemption?

If you were working during the period being monitored you will need to submit your learning and development activity for assessment.

Once you have retired in full please contact our remissions team to update your record. Further information on applying for remission can be found here. Once fully retired you will be exempt from CPD monitoring.

I've been selected for CPD monitoring, can I have an extension?

Members are required to undertake and record CPD on an ongoing basis. If selected for monitoring, you will receive notification via email and be given adequate time to prepare your CPD return ready for submission.

CIMA will only issue extensions under extenuating circumstances.

How will you assess my CPD record?

Your learning and development activities for the last 12 months will be assessed against the six steps of the CIMA Professional Development cycle

If using the Competency and Learning website (and complete all fields) you will cover all six steps of the cycle.

Please note that you don’t need to have completed all activities for them to count. Please include in your record all development activities identified, underway, and completed over the monitoring period.
