Ethics in the new decade: A CIMA update

Speaker: Bryony Clear Hill

Category: LOCAL EVENT

On 1st January 2020 CIMA launched its updated Code of Ethics. The updates bring the Code in line with the best in the industry and ensure that it remains relevant to the ethical challenges management accountants might face in their careers.

As we enter the 2020s, ethics is a hot topic in business. From major scandals hitting the media to concerns around AI and climate change, businesses are under increasing scrutiny from consumers, employees and the wider community to act in an ethical and responsible manner.

On 1st January 2020 CIMA launched its updated Code of Ethics. The updates bring the Code in line with the best in the industry and ensure that it remains relevant to the ethical challenges management accountants might face in their careers. This interactive talk will update you on the changes made to the Code of Ethics, as well as diving into some of the wider ethical debates going on in the world of business. We will consider some ethical dilemmas which management accountants might face during their careers, and outline the ethics support that CIMA offers to its members and students.

By the end of this event, you will:

  • Understand the recent changes made to the CIMA Code of Ethics
  • Know about the ethics and responsible business work conducted by CIMA and how you can access support
  • Have considered some of the ethical dilemmas faced by management accountants, and understand some methods for addressing these
  • Have an awareness of some key areas of interest in business ethics
