Since the creation of the joint venture, CIMA and AICPA has undertaken numerous initiatives to elevate the profession of management accounting.
CGMA (Chartered Global Management Accountant) designation
This international designation was launched in January 2012. It recognises the most talented and committed management accountants with the discipline and skill to drive strong business performance. We now have 150,000 CGMAs globally, including more than 50,000 CPAs in the US since launch. Find out more.
CGMA thought leadership
Together, CIMA and AICPA develop CGMA research and insights to challenge your thinking and keep you at the forefront of your profession. Most recently, our report, 'Joining the dots: decision making for a new era', focuses on the challenges senior executives face in making decisions in a changing world, and how businesses need to improve to succeed. The Global Management Accounting Principles
Launched in 2014, the principles were developed to help the public and private sectors make better decisions, respond appropriately to the risks they face and protect the value they generate.
Prepared by the AICPA and CIMA, they reflect the perspective of CEOs, CFOs, academics, regulators, government bodies and other professionals in 20 countries across five continents. To find out more, view the principles.
CGMA Competency Framework
The CGMA Competency Framework is designed to help management accountants and their employers understand the knowledge requirements and assess the skills needed for both current and desired roles.
The framework is underpinned by the need for objectivity, integrity, and ethical behaviour, and includes a commitment to continuously acquire new skills and knowledge.
The CGMA Competency Framework is the foundation that will demonstrate the relevance and capabilities of a CGMA as a trusted finance and business strategist. Find out more.
AICPA | CIMA Competency and Learning website
The AICPA | CIMA Competency and Learning website was launched in 2015, and is the professional learning and development destination for CGMAs.
The website is based on the CGMA Competency Framework and brings together a variety of learning resources and self-assessment tools, enabling tracking and reporting of progress toward learning goals. It empowers CGMAs to take control of their career development to discover and learn new skills when, where and how they want. Find out more.
The Anthony Howitt Lecture
This lecture is held every other year in honour of its namesake – CIMA’s former president Anthony Wentworth Howitt – and was created to advance education in accounting and related subjects. This year, it was held in partnership with AICPA and hosted as a CGMA event at London’s City Hall on 3 June 2015. Find out more.
World Congress of Accountants (WCOA)
In 2014, the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) named CGMA the imperial sponsor of WCOA. Held every four years, it is among the most prestigious events in the profession and allowed us to showcase management accounting on an international stage. Visit the WCOA website.
