Why CIMA for engineers?

A fundamental grounding in business and finance is essential for all engineering professionals operating in today’s challenging business environment. Engineers Ireland and CIMA have come together to offer members of Engineers Ireland a mechanism through which they can acquire a thorough grounding in business and finance.

What is CIMA offering?

The CIMA certificate in business accounting (CBA) is now on offer to all members of Engineers Ireland. It is the introduction to the CIMA professional qualification and is a recognised qualification in its own right.

The syllabus is divided into five modules that are designed to provide you with a solid grounding in the different areas of accounting and how they relate practically to the business world. It provides an understanding of the uses of accounting information in planning, controlling and decision making.

Certificate modules

The CBA is comprised of five individual study modules:

(C01) fundamentals of management accounting.
(C02) fundamentals of financial accounting.
(C03) fundamentals of business mathematics.
(C04) fundamentals of business economics.
(C05) fundamentals of ethics, corporate governance and business law.

All Engineers Ireland members are exempt from one of the five modules – business mathematics (C03). Members with additional relevant qualifications may also be eligible for more exemptions.

Study options

The CIMA certificate in business accounting offers candidates the flexibility to progress at their own pace by planning their studies around their personal circumstances.

Members can commence their certificate studies at any time. All of the certificate examinations are computer based and can be taken in any order, at any time. There are a number of CIMA computer based exam centres located throughout Ireland, North and South. View CIMA Ireland CBA exam centres.

Engineers Ireland has successfully negotiated a 25% discount for those of its members interested in studying for the CIMA certificate in business accounting qualification.

Exam fees are paid seperately.
