Outline
- The definition of financial instruments and the difference between equity instruments and financial liabilities.
- Accounting for compound financial instruments.
- Accounting for financial assets and financial liabilities.
- Recognition, initial measurement and subsequent measurement.
- Impairment and derecognition.
- The basics of hedging and embedded derivatives.
This course includes only a brief overview of IFRS 9 as the new standard has yet to be approved for use within the EU and is not likely to be mandatory until 2015. Financial instruments - IFRS 9 and the replacement of IAS 39 provides more details.
The course starts at 9.30am, with registration and coffee from 9.00am, and ends at 4.30pm. Lunch and refreshments are provided.
