CIMA members must obtain at least three years' work experience after passing their CIMA exams before they can describe themselves as ‘Chartered management accountants’. This process ensures that they have built on their finance and management accounting knowledge gained while studying the CIMA qualification.
Additionally, CIMA Members in Practice are regulated in order to encourage best practice and promote their value to businesses. All Members in Practice must register annually and must obtain a Practising Certificate once they have gained the required experience. Practising Certificate holders have been strictly assessed by an external panel of assessors.
Practising Certificate holders are listed on the online database and as CIMA members, and must also ensure they adhere to CIMA's Code of Ethics and policy for CIMA professional development to maintain their competence.
