Malaysia member salary survey published

picture of Malaysia salary survey coverOur salary survey of Malaysia shows that the average salary for a qualified CIMA professional in that country is RM120,000 (US$34,250) a year.

Due to a global shortage of finance talent, CIMA professionals are constantly in demand around the world - including in Malaysia. By the time the country achieves its expected developed nation status by 2020, it may have a shortage of 60,000 accountants. The accounting industry is already feeling the pinch as several countries are luring Malaysian accountants with salary offers of four times their earnings.

As well as salary and bonuses, the report looks at:

  • demographic profile
  • benefits
  • sector analysis
  • hours of work
  • satisfaction.

Nine out of ten CIMA members working in Malaysia were expecting a bonus in 2007 when the data was collected in August and September last year.

The average bonus potential was RM25,000 ($7,100), with a privileged 2% expecting to receive bonuses in excess of RM100,000 ($28,500). On average, newly qualified members were expecting higher bonuses in 2007 than those with between one and ten years’ post-qualified experience.

This reflects the strong levels of demand for newly qualified CIMA members in the country. Newly qualified members, on average, expect to receive a bonus in the region of RM20,800 ($5,900) in 2007. This is almost the same as the average national income in Malaysia of RM21,000 ($6,000) a year. CIMA members working in the media sector receive the highest salaries by far, equating to RM175,000 ($50,000) a year.

The complete CIMA Malaysia salary survey 2007/2008 is available on CIMA MYJOBS.
