Company Direction Diploma returns

By Salema Hafiz, employer marketing manager, CIMA.

Due to the success of the first cohort, the second cohort of the Institute of Directors/CIMA Diploma in Company Direction, has been announced.

The programme, starting in July 2005, is tailored specifically for CIMA members at board level and in senior management positions. It is aimed at those responsible for providing strategic leadership. Those who are, or aspire to become, company directors are increasingly required to demonstrate that their knowledge, understanding and expertise is in line with leading-edge practice. In addition, the corporate governance debate has meant that companies need to focus even more on ensuring that directors, both executive and non-executive, understand and comply with the law. This Diploma programme addresses the issues and concerns facing CIMA members today.

Ultimate in professionalism

The Diploma in Company Direction is intended to support your CPD needs and benefit your organisation by helping ensure that you are up to date with best practice and current business thinking. It covers aspects of corporate governance, directors' responsibilities and strategy on how to improve business performance. It also provides delegates with an excellent opportunity to meet and learn from their peers in other organisations. Successful completion of the diploma gives you the requisite knowledge to apply for the IoD's professional qualification, Chartered Director, which demonstrates the ultimate in director professionalism.

The diploma comprises eight modules, within nine months, exploring the fundamental differences between management and direction.

Places are limited to ensure a high standard of both interaction and tutorage. In addition, the programme meets with ISS (Institutional Shareholder Services) standards of accreditation. As a result, companies with directors who attend this programme will get an upward adjustment to their governance rating.
