These solutions are used by engineers in a substantial number of blue chip customers for the simulation, analysis and visualisation of particulate flows in a wide variety of industrial applications, including pharmaceutical, materials engineering, oil and gas and space exploration.
Immediately prior to this, Gordon was the Principal of NXFD from 2004 to 2006, which specialised in company growth and relationship management, as well as executive mentoring and exit implementation and planning.
Engagements encompassed the technology, software and energy industries predominantly for emerging venture capital backed companies.
From 1992 to 2004, Gordon worked for Edinburgh Petroleum Services Ltd, the leading production optimisation software solution provider delivering to exploration and production companies world wide.
He was Finance Director for the group as well as serving as a Director in the USA, Mexico and Venezuela and was also President of its manpower leasing company in Mexico. Before this, he was with Unisys Corporation (1987-1992), where he held a variety of financial analysis roles, covering product assurance, engineering development, and manufacturing.
Employment prior to this was drawn from a combination of industrial accounting experience with the printers Tullis Neill Ltd (1985-1987) and auditing experience gained with Arthur Young McLelland Moore (1983-1985), now part of Ernst & Young. He has also served as a trustee of various pension and beneficiary trusts.
Gordon has served on many of the Institute’s Policy Committees from 1996 onwards and his senior roles have included Chairman of the Membership Committee, Vice Chairman of the Marketing Committee, Chairman of the Student Affairs/Development Committee (twice), Chairman of CIMA Scotland as well as being a Member of Council for 11 years.
His involvement, though, started at the Branch level in 1986 as a student, becoming President of the Edinburgh & District Branch in 1993. In 1996, he helped co-ordinate the very first face-to-face membership assessment session held by the Institute.
Gordon has been a champion of the assessment process ever since, conducting a great many membership assessment sessions on almost every continent, and in the process meeting thousands of new members. He holds the record as the youngest ever elected Council member and has become the youngest President of the Institute for over 50 years.
He is married with two young sons and lives in Edinburgh. Outside work, his interests revolve mainly around rugby, where he is active as a qualified referee because he is too slow to play.
