Three students are honoured in the CIMA NHS Student Excellence Awards for their exceptional performances in the November 2007 Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) examinations.
Jennifer Kirkham, from Gloucester, a financial management trainee on the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme at Gloucester Primary Care Trust, achieved the highest aggregate mark in the world for the Strategic level papers, and joint first globally on the Risk and Control Strategy paper. John Sparrowhawk, from New Hinksey, Oxford, a financial management trainee on the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme at East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust, achieved the joint highest ranking paper out of all NHS candidates at Managerial level based on the Management Accounting Performance Evaluation paper. And Deborah Nightingale, from Bedford, a financial governance administrator at Bedfordshire Primary Care Trust, achieved the joint highest ranking paper out of all NHS candidates at Managerial level based on the Financial Accounting and Tax Principles paper.
Both Jennifer and John will be presented with their awards at a celebration lunch on 10 April at One Whitehall Place, London, by Charles Tilley, Chief Executive of CIMA, and Jenni Hutchinson, Business Development Director, CIMA. Deborah will be presented with her award at a later date. Each winner receives £150 of John Lewis vouchers and a certificate.
Jenni Hutchinson, commenting on the winners, said:
“Jennifer, John and Deborah have all shown great commitment to their studies and to their careers by achieving such outstanding exam results. I wish them all every success in their future careers. These awards acknowledge the importance the NHS places on training CIMA students and employing fully qualified chartered management accountants to take on NHS management roles.”
