Steve Ofori knows what it’s like to be on the cutting edge of business. As finance director of the New Business team at Fujitsu Services, he plays a key role in helping to drive the company forward in a highly competitive environment.
'At times it can be quite pressurised and intense,' Steve says. 'But it's a great job and knowing you make a difference is very satisfying.'
Steve joined Fujitsu Services straight after graduating in economics and political science and he's never looked back.
'I wanted to get into the financial side of business and at the time the most important thing was to find a company which offered the CIMA syllabus as part of its training programme,' he recalls.
For an ambitious young man who wanted to make his mark on the company, CIMA provided the ideal springboard. 'My CIMA training dovetailed with the hands-on experience I was getting at work and this provided a really strong foundation to build my career on,' he explains.
'I’ve come quite a long way since I qualified but to make informed decisions, you have to be equipped with the basic knowledge and that’s why CIMA is so useful - because it covers so many areas of business activity.'
Today Steve has a front seat in helping to bring in new business. 'My job couldn’t be further away from being a bean counter,' he smiles. 'I'm working in a proactive sales environment where we're looking forward rather than backwards.'
'My CIMA training has given me the skills to work from an international perspective and this is crucial when you're dealing with multinational companies and multi-million pound contracts.'
