If your occupation falls on the migration occupation demand list (MODL) you will obtain an additional 15 points towards your final score.
This is a points-based system and applicants or their spouses must be able to satisfy a number of basic requirements such as age, qualifications, English language ability and work experience.
There are a number of categories of the skilled migration programme under which you may qualify.
Family migration
If you have a partner who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident, this is the visa for you.
The Australian Government has shifted the focus of their migration programme to reflect Australia's current social and economic needs, while maintaining a strong commitment to family migration. Family migrants are selected on the basis of their family relationship and this category includes spouse, fiancé(e), de facto partner, and interdependent spouse (same sex partner).
Employer sponsored visas
Australian businesses who are unable to meet their needs from within the Australian labour market can recruit and sponsor employees from overseas or foreign nationals within Australia. Usually this type of visa is temporary however permanency can be granted in occupations of high demand. In both circumstances a contractual commitment to the employer for a minimum period is required. It is a two stage process, the first stage being a nomination lodged by the employer and accepted by DICA, followed by the candidate matching the nomination. This type of visa is simpler and less time consuming to acquire than the general skilled migration category.
Business visa migration
Depending on your circumstances you could also possibly apply for either a temporary or permanent business visa for migration to Australia.
