CIMA joins up with main Chinese accountancy body

17 April 2008

CIMA and CICPA to jointly promote
broad business outlook and develop business leaders

April 17, 2008 Beijing —— CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA), the sole professional accountancy body in mainland China.  This agreement will strengthen a long-term strategic partnership and promote the development of the accountancy profession in China.  CIMA is the world’s largest management accounting institute and the only international professional body with a sole focus on accounting for business.

Under the agreement, the two organisations will cooperate on training and professional development activities. They will also explore possible means for mutual recognition of credentials and exemptions.

CIMA and CICPA continue to support their members in education, training, technical exchanges, joint conferences and professional development schemes that contribute significantly to the acquisition of high standards of professional values, ethics and skills. This strategic alliance will support China’s continuing efforts to align accounting practices with the needs of business and best international practice.

Chen Yugui, Secretary General of CICPA, said at the signing ceremony, “CICPA has always had very good dialogue and cooperation with overseas accounting professional organisations to provide favourable conditions for the globalisation of the Chinese certified accountants. CIMA is a leading professional organisation with expertise in management accounting. The MoU between CICPA and CIMA is to strengthen the cooperation between the two parties in terms of training, examination, research and development. On the one hand, it will help members in each organisation to learn from each other, and on the other hand, it will further enhance the qualification and global perspective of certified accountants. The two organisations will therefore play an even bigger role in the development of the international accounting profession.“

Highlighting the benefits of the tie up, Charles Tilley, Chief Executive of CIMA, said: "CIMA is delighted to be entering into an MoU with our Chinese counterpart because we see today’s accountancy profession as increasingly global. We are looking forward to collaborating with the CICPA on the promotion of accountancy as a career option for finance professionals across China.  We will now be able to help China to develop more business leaders with the finance and business management skills so in demand throughout China and the rest of the world.”
