CIMA Ghana inducts new executives into office
A seven member executive of CIMA's Ghana branch has been inducted into office, with a call to make the accounting profession more attractive to the public.
Mr. Samuel Okai Tettey, a CIMA member who chaired the function held in Accra on Thursday 17 April, said: 'It is very sad to note the profession, which plays an important role in the development of the country, is not well marketed to the public.'
He cited the examples of Singapore and Malaysia, which have used members in their development process.
Mr. Okai Tettey said that professional bodies such as CIMA have a major role to play if Ghana is to meet the target of becoming a middle income country by 2015.
Outgoing president Mr. Joshua Nicol urged the new executives to build on the development programmes that have already been begun and urged them to reach out to CIMA members: 'It is only when members get involved in the activities that we can market CIMA to the public.'
New president Mr. Jonas S. Quaye reiterated his commitment to embark on activities to attract more members.
The new executives are:
- Jonas S. Quaye, President
- Stephen Asare, Vice President
- MacGeorge Gyimah, Secretary
- Stella Oye, Assistant Secretary
The new committee members are:
- Gus Kessie, Executive Member
- Bismarck Badu, Publicity Secretary
- Philemon Y. Mennia, Student Affairs.
