CIMA Hong Kong reaches out to employers and students
This is the territory's leading recruitment event. By being present, CIMA is sending out a strong signal to employers that it is present in the territory and that it is able to work with them to develop their local talent.
'This is a very important event for CIMA,' commented Damian Yip, divisional director. 'It ensures that the younger generation are aware of us and see management accountant as a 'sexy' profession to get into.
In the past, local universities have offered degree courses that had matched the CIMA syllabus very closely. But since the changes, we need to work more closely with employers,' adds Damian.
CIMA Hong Kong introduces management accounting to university students
From February 2008, CIMA Hong Kong has worked closely with university lecturers and programme directors to introduce management accounting to students.
'It is a great opportunity for us to be invited into the classroom,' said Damian Yip, CIMA Hong Kong Divisional Director. 'We can support universities and guide students through speeches and information seminars during lessons – a very effective means of coverage.'
Damian said: 'As a professional accounting body, we explain to students what exactly the accounting profession is, and the corresponding professional qualification available for different accounting functions.'
The information seminars helped students understand the difference between auditing, financial accounting and management accounting. They were presented with the possible careers an accounting graduate could go into, and the impact finance transformation can have on companies.
There will be more exhibitions and seminars in April and May. For further information, please contact Scott Lee, assistant marketing manager at CIMA's Hong Kong division at email: scott.lee@cimaglobal.com.
