Governance

The Professional Standards Directorate is separated into the following areas of activity:

  • Ethics, Standards and Regulation - the Professional Standards department strives to ensure that both members and students uphold the standards necessary to their individual status and to CIMA.

A key success factor for the department is the development and maintenance of a set of ethics and professional standards that are respected by employers, government and all other stakeholders in the financial activities of the private and public sector, and are seen to be in the public interest. The public interest is a high priority at all times.

Operationally, the Professional Standards department is responsible for regulation and monitoring of members.
  • Complaints and disciplinary - the Professional Conduct department processes complaints made against CIMA members and students for referral to CIMA’s conduct committees.
  • Corporate Governance - the Royal Charter invests in Council responsibility for the overall governance and control of CIMA and its affairs. The Secretariat deals with CIMA’s Council and Committee structures and the Charter, Byelaws and Regulations.

Each department has responsibilities to uphold and promote the professional standards of CIMA and its members and students, while protecting the public interest.
