CIMA celebrates NHS student excellence at awards ceremony

We are proud of the commitment demonstrated by the NHS in training CIMA students and employing fully qualified Chartered Management Accountants in management. As a celebration of this commitment to outstanding performance, CIMA was delighted to announce the winners of the CIMA NHS Student Excellence Awards, sponsored by The Financial Training Company (FTC).

The presentation, on 30 November, in London, announced Jonathan Dove from Canterbury as the winner at Managerial Level and Gavin D’Northwood from County Durham the winner at Strategic Level.

The award presented to Jonathan Dove from Kent and Medway Strategic Health Authority, was for achieving the highest mark in the Financial Accounting and Tax Principles paper. And the award to Gavin D’Northwood, placed with City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, was for gaining the highest mark in the Management Accounting Risk and Control Strategy paper of the CIMA Professional Chartered Management Accounting qualification.

Both winners were presented with a certificate and an iPod by Charles Tilley, chief executive of CIMA. Tilley said: 'The NHS is now the largest single employer of Chartered Management Accountants in the UK.  There is an impressive level of commitment demonstrated by the NHS in training CIMA students and employing fully qualified Chartered Management Accountants to take on management roles. I congratulate Gavin and Jonathan on their achievement and wish them both every success in their future careers.'
