Performance accountability to stakeholders: workplace injuries in the UK and Canada
This study examined stakeholder accountability for public services by examining the workplace injuries systems in the UK and Canada. This research consisted of stakeholder interviews and documentary analysis in Canada and the UK.
CIMA found that standalone agencies can facilitate stakeholder accountability whereas current government provision tends to rely on political accountability. Plurality of provision of public services is increasingly common but we argue policy management across a plurality of providers requires considerable planning and control, including the use of multiple simultaneous performance measures.
