A charities checklist for the recession

July 2009

A charities checklist for the recession

The Charities Commission - the independent regulator of charities in England and Wales - has produced a practical checklist tool for charity trustees.

The checklist is to help charities with best practice when they review the way they operate. It reflects a best practice approach that is especially important during a downturn.

The checklist should help structure discussion at a trustee meeting, away day discussion, or planning meeting. It will also help trustees develop a plan and timetable for action.

The Charity Commission strongly encourages trustee boards of all charities to use this tool.

The 15 main checklist questions will not all be relevant to every charity – this depends on the charity’s size and how it operates.

You can find out more about English and Welsh charities in our members’ handbook.

Information about Scottish charities can be found on the OSCR website. Northern Irish charities information is at the Department for Social Development.
