The Prince’s Trust’s celebrate success awards

The CIMA North West England and North Wales area is proud to have sponsored the 2010 Prince’s Trust CIMA breakthrough award.

The finalists for the honour, which was awarded on 4 November 2010 in The Point building at Lancashire’s county cricket ground, Old Trafford, were two young individuals with troubled backgrounds.

The first was Usman Akram. Usman had decided to follow his friends to university without thinking about whether it was the right move for him. He struggled to fit in and soon stopped attending lectures. He decided to return home to Nelson, unemployed and feeling depressed.

He then signed up to The Prince’s Trust Team programme and slowly came out of his shell, developing a talent and passion for youth work.

The second finalist was Carl Harper. A short while ago, Carl’s life was headed in the wrong direction, as boredom and frustration had led him to commit petty crimes.

However, he then came across The Prince’s Trust’s get started with football course at Everton FC. This programme helped Carl realise his passion for football and he was subsequently offered a job at Everton FC.

CIMA North West England and North Wales area president, David Stanford FCMA, CGMA, was joined by Kirsty Henshaw in announcing Carl Harper as the winner of 2010 CIMA breakthrough award. Carl’s remarkable journey has gained him a junior football organiser’s certificate and also his FA level one coaching badge; he continues to work on his level two qualification.

David Stanford said: ‘Carl has shown real determination and strength and used the opportunities around him to create a future for himself in a role he enjoys.

CIMA is proud to have sponsored the breakthrough award, which celebrates this ‘get up and go’ attitude and the journey young people go through to make changes in their lives.’

CIMA North West England and North Wales would like to thank The Prince’s Trust for the opportunity to work with these inspiring individuals.
