CIMA leads the way with corporate integrity pledge

Joining the likes of AirAsia, Tesco Malaysia, Google Malaysia and Shell Malaysia, CIMA SE Asia has signed a corporate integrity pledge to signify its commitment towards creating a business environment that is fair, transparent and free from corruption. To date, more than 50 organisations in Malaysia have signed the pledge.

The corporate integrity pledge is an initiative of the Malaysian Institute of Integrity that is aligned with the objective of fighting corruption under the Government Transformation Programme of Malaysia.

We are proud to support this initiative as ethics is high on CIMA’s agenda. Plans are underway to work closely with the Malaysian Institute of Integrity to fly the ethics flag even higher.

CGMA launched

CIMA and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) have formed a ground breaking joint venture to elevate the discipline of management accounting and establish a global quality standard through the new Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation. The new CGMA designation was launched on 31 January 2012 simultaneously in New York, London and Kuala Lumpur (which represented Asia).

In Kuala Lumpur, the launch was held at Carcosa Seri Negara, a historical heritage mansion and it was attended by about 100 corporate guests. As the event happened during the Chinese New Year period, the traditional lion dance was used for the launch, complete with Chinese drums.

The guests of honour were Matthew Smith, first secretary, UK Trade and Investment, representing the British high commissioner to Malaysia, and Matt Ingeneri, trade policy officer, representing the US ambassador to Malaysia. Also present were Gulzari Babber, deputy president of CIMA, Andrew Harding, managing director of CIMA and Jim Morrison, chairman of the AICPA business and industry advisory committee.

After welcome speeches by Andrew and Jim, the launch started with the beating of the Chinese drum by the guests of honour, Andrew, Jim and Gulzari. Two lions, holding the CIMA and AICPA logos, entered the event room and then the CGMA logo was unveiled. Gulzari led a toast to the launch. Following this, Andrew gave a 15-minute presentation on the CGMA launch report entitled ‘Rebooting business: valuing the human dimension’. This was followed by a press conference, lunch and networking.
