CIMA (The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) has entered into an agreement with University of York to offer accelerated Master's degree programmes for CIMA members, especially those working within the public sector or health industry. This is the University of York's first ever collaboration with a professional organisation. CIMA has over 7,250 members and students in the public sector.
The partnership was designed to support CIMA members - allowing them to advance their careers and professional development using the CIMA qualification as a foundation. It will also help members to fulfil their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements, as set out by CIMA and the global accountancy body, the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).
The first programmes to be offered will be online Master's courses in Public Policy and Management, and Public Administration/MPA. Intake for each programme will be in October and April and can be taken full time, part time or via e-learning. They will include more than 20 online CPD units, with modules on globalisation, the environment, economics, public service reform, and managing change.
CIMA members will also be able to undertake a Master's of Health Sciences. The intake for this programme is October of each year and can be done full or part time.
CIMA members will receive a 15% discount on fees for the e-master's courses and a 10% discount on the Master's of Health Sciences. Fast track may also be available, depending on the individual member's previous qualifications and experience. These schemes and discounts are exclusive to CIMA members and no other finance or accounting bodies are eligible.
Robert Jelly, Director of Education at CIMA, said: 'CIMA is very pleased about this new partnership with the University of York. As part of our ongoing effort to support our members with their Continuing Professional Development, this partnership represents a significant benefit. It provides a great way for CIMA members, particularly in the public sector and health industry, to further develop their careers and will also help employers win the war for talent and retain valuable finance staff by supporting their employees' continuing development and career advancement.
'This partnership with the University of York is another addition to our international portfolio of accelerated Master's degree partnerships being developed by CIMA with universities throughout the world.'
The University of York has a global reputation for providing high quality CPD courses and is consistently ranked as one of the leading UK universities for research and teaching quality. Visit http://www.york.ac.uk/enterprise/eio/cpd/ for further information on CPD.
