CIMA announces first Print on Demand publication

18 June 2007

CIMA, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, has released its first publication following the Print on Demand agreement with its publishers, Reed Elsevier. This agreement allows for all CIMA's commercial research reports to be printed in hard copy as and when they are ordered, and advances the commitment by CIMA and Reed Elsevier towards furthering the knowledge of management accountancy and strengthening the relationship between academia and practitioners.

The Print on Demand publication process involves the following steps:

' All research reports will undergo CIMA's rigorous peer review quality assurance process.
' The report will then be forwarded to Reed Elsevier for publication.
' If Reed Elsevier believes the research could be developed into a reference book the researcher will be offered the opportunity to develop the report further (for an author's fee and a free copy).
' All other research reports will be typeset and published in a Print on Demand format and put on the CIMA Publishing website (www.cimapublishing.com).
' Copies of a report can be dispatched in just 48 hours after receipt of an online order.

CIMA will also continue to provide guidance throughout the life of the research project from the CIMA technical department.
Robin Bellis-Jones, Chair CIMA Research & Development Group commented, "CIMA Research is very pleased with this agreement. This is exciting news for academics and practitioners working with CIMA Research to broaden the knowledge of management accounting. We hope the researchers will be happy to see their research in hard copy, and practitioners, universities and libraries will benefit from being able to buy research reports as and when they want."

2. This first CIMA Print on Demand research project provides insights into the interrelationship between existing management accounting practices and accounting tools which seek to guide organisations towards sustainable development and create information about accounting techniques which addresses the issue of sustainable development. The research project pays attention to the interactions between sustainable development performance data, management accountants, management accounting processes and management accounting generated data. It also draws from FCA (full accounting technique) - an accounting technique gaining currency within policy and business circles. The project points out that the SAM (Sustainability Assessment Model) is a form of full cost accounting and the research furthers knowledge of FCA and its usefulness as an accounting tool. The project also examines how sustainable development data is used within a case study organisation (BP) and how such data can be used within other organisations.
